How do I obtain a license to conduct Private Investigation in the state of Mississippi?
Currently, there is no state Licensure in Mississippi in order to conduct private investigations. You do, however, have to hold a Business License in the city (if in city limits) or county (if outside city limits) where you reside, have an office or conduct your business. Check with your local privilege license office. The cost for a home based business license usually is around $25 per year. Also, depending on the type of business you hold, you may also have to file with the Secretary of State's office for an LLC, Inc., etc. Please contact the Secretary of State for more information.
I paid my dues already, but my name doesn't show on the members list on the MPIA website?
Our organization has under gone some major changes in a short period of time, and while volunteers do their best, we realize that it's entirely possible that you may have paid and our records don't reflect that. We can correct that immediately if you will bring this to our attention and offer us evidence that you are a paid member. Rest assured that we're working very hard to put in place a system to make sure that no one is left out in the future.
What happened to my membership on the old Yahoo Group?
The two groups that were previously being used by the MPIA for communication with the members, actually belonged to an individual that decided to resign from the MPIA, and in doing so, deleted the private group and took control over the former public group. The other yahoo groups were discontinued to incorporate the job section into our website. Access to jobs is for Active members only. You must be current in membership and log in to see the jobs. Please check site frequently.

Our membership runs from January to December. All dues must be paid by January 1st. If dues are not received by this date, you will be blocked from access to website until paid. Any member who allows their membership to expire for more than 90 days will be removed from membership rolls and will have to apply for membership again and meet all requirements.
I LIVE IN ANOTHER STATE. CAN I JOIN THE MPIA?
Our Association is open to membership from other states through Associate Membership, whereby you will be listed on our Member's directory but will not be a voting member or have access to the jobs listing. Associate Members dues are $50 for the year and membership runs from January to December. Renewal must be paid by January 1st. CAN I PAY FOR MY DUES ONLINE?
Not right now, but this is something that we are going to be working toward. We hope to offer online payments and much more in the near future. Currently, we can only accept mailed payments either check or money order or by cash if paid at a meeting.
