Biography – Tom Thomas (Farris C. Thomas, III)Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968 as a Private, Tom retired in 1994 as a Lieutenant Colonel having served 26 years in Infantry, Military Police, Logistics, Recruiting and Special Operations units. He currently provides digital information training, as well as technical and computer forensic support to law enforcement agencies in Mississippi as a private contractor, where he is also deemed by the courts as an Expert Witness. He lives in Ocean Springs on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi.Tom became a member of the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists (IACIS) in 2007 where he received his Certified Electronic Evidence Collection Specialist (CEECS) status while serving with the District Attorney, 23d Judicial District, Tennessee. He received his Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE) status in 2008 with recertification in 2011, 2014, and 2017.   Tom serves as a Coach for CFCE candidates which he began shortly after his certification. He has contributed to IACIS training development as Team Leader for the First Responder block of instruction, which includes Hardware Basics, Crime Scene and Triage. In addition to serving as a Trainer and Table Coach at several IACIS events in the U.S., Germany and Croatia, he served as the IACIS Director of Marketing from 2012-2013. During 2015 Tom applied for and was accepted into the Mississippi Private Investigators Association (MPIA) and is currently a member in good standing.Tom is passionate about the education and safety of children as well as making a difference in his community. While in Tennessee he was elected to the Dickson County School Board; was instrumental in the development of the Child Advocacy Center, 23d Judicial District; served as President, Good News Jail & Prison Ministry; also, was a member of the District Attorney’s Task Force of law enforcement agencies and children’s services, which provided a traveling presentation, “Meth Is Death”, in schools which brought awareness to young people concerning the dangers of methamphetamine drugs. Tom continues to actively support and mentor “in crisis” youth, the Salvation Army, the Homes of Grace and works with children in the Mississippi foster care system.
